Telemark Resort to host Paralympics World Cup events
Telemark Resort near Cable will host the International Paralympic Committee World Cup in cross-country skiing and biathlon in January.
More than 100 athletes with disabilities from about 15 countries are expected to compete in four cross-country and two biathlon ski races January 23-30, according to an official with the Cable Chamber of Commerce.
Wisconsin Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett estimated the seven-day event will bring in about 1,200 spectators a day and a huge boost to the local economy, Wdio.com reported. "Right now between the athletes and their coaches, their families, spectators, volunteers, we're expecting to see an impact of about $1.5 million dollars," Klett said.
James Bolen with the Cable Area Chamber of Commerce said crews will be busy for the next few months readying the trails and making upgrades to Telemark hotel rooms and other facilities.
