"We'll include 'Which Way the Wind Blows Day' when riders will be bussed to starting locations and ride back with strong tailwinds."
The camp will be based at Telemark Resort, which is offering a discounted lodging rate. Special rates have been negotiated with other area lodging and camping is available nearby in the national forest.
An ongoing cycling film festival will take place in the evenings. There will be a social mixer on arrival night and an awards banquet on the final Saturday evening. For more information, e-mail totalimmersion@charter.net for a detailed PDF program outline or call 608/467-0211.

WALK WISCONSIN SETS 25,000-MILE GOAL FOR JUNE 3

STEVENS POINT, Wis. More than 1,100 walkers took part in the first-ever Walk Wisconsin event held on National Trail Day last June. Using the contiguous Green Circle circular trail system in Stevens Point, Walk Wisconsin participants collectively walked nearly 14,000 miles while enjoying the beautiful environment and supporting a community health initiative.
For this year's Walk Wisconsin Marathon, set to take place June 3, organizers have set 25,000 miles as a goal the same distance as the circumference of the world and the reason for calling the event "A Walk Around the World."
Tawnya Hefner, one of the organizers from Ministry Health, said families, work groups, church groups and school groups, as well as friends and neighbors trained together for last year's marathon, and lasting relationships were forged.
Walk Wisconsin founder John Jury said last year's event was a hit for several reasons. "First, people want to live longer, healthier and more energetic lives, and the research about the fitness aspects of walking is undeniable," he said. "Next, walking is by far the exercise used and preferred by most Americans, and the challenge of the distance walk is appealing to many."
Jury said many people were also interested in the leisurely nature of the event. "In the fast paced world in which we live, the exercise of walking provides a way to actually slow down, to talk with a friend or family member, or to just be alone without noise. For many, it just seems to be the right activity at the right moment in time," he said.
Nevertheless, those who wish to complete the full 26.2-mile marathon distance should begin training early. People who are not currently physically active should get clearance from a physician before beginning their training.
But with three distances the quarter marathon, half marathon and full marathon the event is designed to attract participants of varying athleticism.
"The three noncompetitive walking distances that make up the Walk Wisconsin event are a great way to get in shape and stay that way while getting out and enjoying the natural environment," said Derek Bell, director of the National Wellness Institute in Stevens Point. "We celebrate any type of event that gets large groups of people to become more physically active."

CALLIE ROHR MEMORIAL CANOE RACE, JUNE 17-18

After the 2005 event raised $9,000 for the American Brain Tumor Association, the second annual Callie Rohr Memorial Canoe Race will be held on June 17-18.
The race covers 26 miles on the headwaters of the Wisconsin River, which is a beautiful, fast and wild small stream with lots of challenging turns and obstacles.
There are many classes of racers, including several recreation classes, pro race classes and for the first time this year a special father and child class. The father and child racers will race, along with the recreation paddlers, the second 14-mile leg of the course on Sunday, Father's Day.
While the recreation class covers the distance in two days, the pros cover the whole course in one day. In fact, last year's winning time was 4 hours and 9 minutes.
The race is in memory Callie Rohr, who at age 7 was diagnosed with a brain tumor. For two and a half years Callie endured multiple surgeries, radiation and rehabilitation therapies. On July 15, 2000, five days before her 10th birthday, Callie lost her battle.
Callie loved to canoe. Her summers were spent with her parents, Jeff and Marcia Rohr, who operate Rohr's Wilderness Tours on the headwaters of the Wisconsin River. It is in memory of Callie's spirit that the Rohrs sponsor the canoe race to benefit the American Brain Tumor Association.
In addition to the race, there will be a dinner, music, auction, raffles and more on Saturday. A pig roast, raffles and the award ceremony will take place at Eagle River Inn in Eagle River, Wisconsin, on Sunday.
For more information, contact Jeff and Marcia Rohr at Rohr's Wilderness Tours, 5230 Razorback Road, Conover, WI 54519; 715/547-3639; www.RWTCanoe.com.
