En route to a personal best time of 2:18:20, Liliya Shobukhova, 33, became the first woman to win the Chicago Marathon three years in a row. She finished nearly four minutes ahead of 2nd-place finisher Ejegayehu Dibaba of Ethiopia.

Ryan Hall approaches the finish line in 5th place, recording a time of 2:08:04. He reportedly donated his prize money toward the building of a hospital by 2nd-place finisher Wesley Korir in his native Kenya.
