Brisk winds buffeted both experienced and first-time paddleboarders on Lake Mendota at the inaugural Midwest Standup Paddle Festival on Saturday, July 9. About 100 attendees competed in three- and six-mile races and scores more took lessons from event organizer Gary Stone, owner of Westport, Wis.-based Paddleboard Specialists.
