Gold's Gym renovation in Milwaukee wins top construction award

fitness

The heavy lifting required to create a Gold’s Gym from an aging office building earned Consolidated Construction Co, Inc., an Eagle Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors.

The Appleton-based contractor was the only Wisconsin business honored as part of the 2011 National Excellence in Construction competition.

Award presenters praised Consolidated for turning an urban eyesore at 731 N. Water St. into a five-story gym with a pool suspended between two floors and a basketball court that includes a mezzanine for spectating. The building’s age and original structure created unique challenges in the renovations, completed in late 2010.

Gold's Gym Milwaukee opened in January 2011.

  1. While the interior of the building is stunning, it always puzzled my why anyone would remove a red granite facade and replace it with run of the mill office windows.
