Remembering Geoff Hollister and the first steps of Nike

running

I am grateful to local writer Cathy Breitenbucher, who sent me a story about Geoff Hollister, from the Portland Oregonian.

The obituary published earlier this week recounts Hollister's time as one of the "Men of Oregon," running for the great Bill Bowerman, and his work in launching Nike with Phil Knight. He died of cancer at the age of 66.

As a middle-aged runner who came to the sport well after college, I find it valuable to look back at the history and the contributions made by those who shaped running today. Hollister is one of them.
