Lack of snow turns candlelight ski events into candlelight hikes

upcoming events

There will be no Winter Fest without winter.

The Northern Kettle Moraine Nordic Ski Club has rescheduled its annual ski and snow celebration from Sunday to March 18, in hopes the trails at the Greenbush recreation area near Plymouth will be snow-covered by then.

Similarly, the lack of snow in southern Wisconsin has caused changes in a host of state park outings.

Candlelight ski events in five Wisconsin state parks have been recast as candlelight hikes on Saturday night. With a nearly full moon, bonfires and hot cocoa, the treks through the woods should be as fun on foot as on skis.

The Blue Mound, Harrington Beach, Mirror Lake and Wildcat Mountain state parks and the Chippewa Moraine Recreation Area, are hosting winter hikes on Saturday. They are among 30 candlelight ski/hike events hosted by the DNR this winter. Check the full schedule here.
