Kenosha police report bicyclist critically injured in weekend crash
A 61-year-old man suffered severe head injuries in Kenosha about 4 p.m. Saturday, after he pedaled into a Dodge Neon at 47th Ave. and Washington Road, police reported earlier Monday.
The cyclist, Chinh Doan of Kenosha, was flown flown by Flight for Life helicopter to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, where he is still in critical condition.
According to the police account, Doan was traveling eastbound on Washington Road and had a red light, but entered the intersection. He crashed into the southbound vehicle, driven by a 21-year-old woman.
The driver showed no signs of impairment at the scene and voluntarily submitted to a legal blood draw when asked by deputies. There are no charges or citations being filed or issued at this time.
The police statement did not clarify whether Doan was wearing a helmet.

Hey bicyclists: Give yourselves a chance. Wear light-colored, reflective clothing, have lots of reflectors and working lights on your bike. Note that lots of motor vehicle drivers keep their headlights on in the daytime. Take a hint. BE VISIBLE. You don't have airbags on that bike.
One of my pet peeves is serious cyclists who ride wearing black Lycra outfits. Those little red or white stripes are decoration, not protection.
