Hunt for biathlon skills opens Saturday
Youths showing up at the McMiller Sports Center on Saturday will be hunting lessons in biathlon, a sport that combines marksmanship with cross-country skiing.
Now in its seventh season, the Wisconsin Biathlon Association will host the clinic for girls and boys, ages 11 to 15.
Certified coaches will present an overview of the sport, safety and basic shooting fundamentals. A short relay race will follow an indoor presentation and practice on the shooting range, off Highway NN, about 2.5 miles south of Eagle.
Wildly popular in European countries, biathlon has been gaining some traction in southeast Wisconsin. The association has expanded its race series to include five events in the 2010-11 season.
Check out the photos and video from last season’s opening race in January. Even on a bitterly cold day, three-dozen competitors skied laps and tested their shooting skills.
