Fresh from a fourth victory in the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival, Brian Matter (Team GEARGRINDER) will put his legs and wheels to the test against an elite field gathering for the US Gran Prix Planet Bike Cup in Sun Prairie.
Two days of racing in Angell Park will give the country's top riders a chance to stake an early claim for points in the four-race series sponsored by Exergy and presented by Greenware.
Former teammates Jeremy Powers and Tim Johnson, both former champions, will be in the field for the men's elite race starting at 4 p.m. both days. The elite women will race at 2:45 p.m.
Amateur races start at 8 a.m. both days.
This is the third year that the Planet Bike Cup has been part of the USGP series, offering an opportunity for local riders to race against the country's best. As a prelude to Sunday's Ride the Drive in Madison, it also builds momentum for cycling in the state.
“It’s an exciting scene, with people out and the cowbells ringing,” said race director Renee Callaway. “People call it the NASCAR of bike racing. You can practically reach out and touch the riders.
“It’s just exciting to be part of the crowd watching this racing, head to head.”
