World-class bike polo players from 48 teams will take to the hardcourt in Milwaukee next month for the Midwest Bike Polo Open, hosted by the local club and the Nomad World Pub.

The Milwaukee club, winners of the 2010 world championship in Berlin, Germany, will run the tournament on its home court Oct. 15 and 16. All matches will be played in Washington Park.

"This tournament is a great opportunity for folks in the Milwaukee area to witness for themselves what the exciting and new sport of hardcourt bike polo is all about," said Jake Newborn, tournament organizer. "Bike polo is a quickly growing urban sport that combines the skills of hockey and bicycling to create a fast-paced, exciting game that includes spills and thrills.

"The event is free and open to the public. Photo taking, cheering, and heckling are highly encouraged," Newborn said.
