Injury forces Solinsky out of IAAF World Championships
A recurring hamstring problem forced Chris Solinsky to withdraw from the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, Korea, where he planned to race the 5,000 meters.
An All-American at the University of Wisconsin, Solinksy set the American record in the 10,000 meters in May 2010, and raised his profile among the athletes with Olympic potential. His 2011 season, however, has been a disappointing struggle with the hamstring problem.
He dropped out of the 10,000 meters at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore., on June 3, citing hamstring difficulties.
“I tried everything to get it ready to be able to compete at Worlds, but it was not responding fast enough,” Solinsky tweeted after straining the muscle in a workout late last week.
