Busche to make Grand Tour debut in Vuelta Espana

cycling

Matthew Busche will make his debut in cycling's Grand Tours when he takes the start line for Team RadioShack in the Vuelta a Espana on Saturday.

It marks another step in his ascendancy to the top ranks of pro cycling.

Just two years ago, the Wauwatosa native was battling for position in the Tour of America's Dairyland. His upcoming tour, roughly 2,043 miles through the Spanish countryside, is one of the three top races on the UCI calendar.

Busche, 26, talked about his hopes for the Vuelta in an interview posted on Cyclingnews.com:

"I don't know if I'm any stronger this year, but I think the experience [having ridden a year already] makes a big difference even just riding in the bunch. I feel like I can navigate the race a bit more which helps a lot.

"I think I have the potential to do better in the sport, but there's still a long way to go in terms of learning mentally, physically and simply gaining more experience."
