The popularity of the Wednesday night ski races at Lapham Peak State Park prompted organizers to try a summer version: the Prowl the Peak 5K race scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Proceeds from the run will support the Peak Nordic Ski Team, which has close to 100 youths that train, ski and race on the hills in the Town of Delafield.
One of the coaches, Roy Nilsen, concluded the lighted ski loop would be equally suited for nighttime running as nighttime skiing. He laid out the course, and added a bit of distance to ensure a full 5K.
"I erred on the side of a few more hills and distance instead of making it too easy," Nilsen said Monday.
Registration information can be found here. The entry fee on the day-of is $25 and the sign up starts at 8:30 in the Evergreen Shelter. You will need a state park sticker to enter the park, but no trail pass will be required.
Watch for a wax recommendation later in the week.
