Tosa pro Matthew Busche will have to wait for his Tour de France debut

cycling

While the final selections have yet to be made, the latest reports say that Matthew Busche will not be riding for the Team RadioShack squad racing in the 2011 Tour de France.

Busche, in his second season as an elite UCI pro, turned in a strong performance in the Amgen Tour of California and beat veteran George Hincapie to win the USA Cycling Pro Road Championship.

Still, team director Johan Bruyneel appears to favor giving the young rider more experience before putting him into the grueling 21-day race considered the pinnacle of the sport.

Busche won the very first race of the Tour of America's Dairyland in 2009 and entered the pro ranks later that year. He signed on with RadioShack shortly after starting his pro career.

  1. Busche is 26. Should have included that.

  2. I suspect that Matthew will make his grand tour debut at the Vuelta in September or at the Giro in May of 2012, assuming that Radioshack has a team in 2012. If he rides the Vuelta this year, then Matthew could make his Tour de France debut in 2012. If Matthew's first grand tour is the 2012 Giro, then he will likely have to wait until at least 2013 to make his Tour de France debut.

Since Matthew will not be racing in France during July, does anyone know if he will participate in any of the International Cycling Classic Superweek races?

  3. Mr. Busche will certainly not be participating in any of the Superweek races. It is my understanding that he'll line up for the Tour of Austria which kicks off about the same time as the TdF.

Also, as I write this it is already old news but Radioshack signed on for another year of sponsorship so he will most certainly have a team for 2012.
