Madison's naked bike ride: less skin, fewer tickets

Madison police ticketed just one of the participants in the city's version of the World Naked Bike Ride Saturday, standing on formality amid the bare display.

In 2010, police ticketed nine of the participants, but chose this year to step back, take in the spectacle and ticket one rider in a ceremonial gesture.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, about 70 bikers joined the ride around the Capitol Square, about 40 fewer than the 2010 version.

The Naked Rides around the world are intended to celebrate the human body and protest the world's dependence on oil.

  1. I was at home all day with nothing to do. Guess it would have been a good day for a hailstorm.

  3. I was at the Capitol Square on Sat., but must've left before the show started. In a way that's good, cuz obviously I didn't really want to see it. But in a way I wish I was there to push the police to issue more citations.
There is no reason they have to be nude and therefore obscene, especially with all the children at the Farmer's Market. And like the courts say, permissiveness of public nudity is not a necessary condition to be able to exercise freedom of speech.
I wish all of these nutjobs were issued citations.

  4. Oh get over it Milwaukee. "Nude and therefore obscene"......haha. I was
just at a parade in Seattle that started with over 100 naked bikers, and
there were plenty of people of all ages to watch. It was fun, and the city
    doesn't care.
