Lake Country Trail paving completed

cycling

Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas will officially open a segment of the Lake Country Trail that has been repaved from Milwaukee Street to Glen Cove.

The first 70 children who turn out to ride through the ribbon with Vrakas Saturday morning will receive free bike helmets.

The ribbon ride through ceremony is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at the Landsberg Center, 2800 Golf Road, Waukesha, just east of the Country Springs Hotel.

Previously a crushed limestone, 8-foot-wide trail, it has been paved to a wider 10 feet, making it accessible to persons with disabilities, parents pushing strollers, in-line skaters as well as pedestrians and bicyclists.

The project was financed in part with federal stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the state Stewardship Fund. The free bicycle helmets are being provided by the Habush Habush & Rottier Charitable Foundation which, after this summer, will have donated 91,500 helmets to Wisconsin Children since 1999.

  1. Tom, they must've hustled on the work this morning as the section around Nagawaukee didn't look near completed yet. I'll check again tonight on my ride home. The area where the ribbon cutting is taking place is a few miles from the remaining construction anyway.

Word from County Parks is the soggy Spring has delayed some of the construction. This will be nice when it's finally complete though.

  2. It is a wonderful trail and I thought more than 20 of the general public would attend.
