Flooding prompts course changes for La Crosse Fitness Festival

upcoming events

Water flowing over the banks of the Mississippi River forced organizers of the La Crosse Fitness Festival to change the courses for the running and biking events the weekend of April 30 and May 1.

In its third year, the weekend of activities includes a 5K run, bike tours up to 60 miles and a half-marathon and marathon.

The start area for the longer runs on May 1 will be moved from Pettibone Park to a parking lot across Highway 15/61. Portions of the park have been flooded for much of the month.

Festival coordinator Pam Pfister told the La Crosse Tribune: “Even if the water goes down, there’s so much mud and debris. It usually takes two weeks to dry out. At this point, it’d be no fun.”

  1. The criterium is still at the park, next to the river though?

  2. It looks that way based on the web site for the festival. They don't list any changes to the criterium http://www.lacrossefitnessfestival.com/events_cycling.html
