Nordic skiing encore: "Cheeseburger in Greenbush"

Nordic skiing

The Northern Kettle Moraine Nordic Ski Club will break out beer and burgers on Saturday to celebrate the ski season extension delivered with a batch of fresh snow on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, the reprieve cannot be applied to the tax deadline.

Tom Lawn reports that the trails west of Plymouth groomed out nicely, with about three inches of new snow on what had been a long-lasting base.

The Jimmy Buffet-themed Spring Fling starts at 11 a.m., at the warming shelter south of Highway 23.

Directions: Wear your Hawaii shirts and shorts. Bring your own cheeseburgers and condiments. The grill will be cooking.

Bring all your wax scrapers. The club will provide free sharpening.

For those willing to travel further, the March Madness storm produced terrific spring conditions at the Reforestation Camp north of Green Bay, the Iola Winter Sports Club and the Birkebeiner trails in the northwest part of the state.

  1. Glad I didn't put away the skinny skis yet. I was going to Iola but Greenbush is half as far of a drive. Oh and the photo ops will be much better.

  2. Saturday was an excellent day at Greenbush with almost white out conditions at times with the lake effect snow bands coming and going. The beer was cold (and free) and the grill was ready by the time I got a couple of hours of skiing in. The ungroomed sections of the trails were the best with a few inches of fluffy powder to fly on.
