This month's column was inspired by a short conversation with my good friend Gary Herdrich. Gary had a recent hip replacement and was surprised at how much his balance on skis had suffered. I actually had the same problems after recent knee replacement surgeries. So what follows is about regaining balance after surgery or some other layoff. But it should also be useful for anyone who wants to improve their balance and make their skiing more fluid, more relaxed and more effortless.
