Volunteers logged more than 252 hours in October preparing the Boundary Water Canoe Area’s longest wilderness tracked ski trail. Three separate crews cleared and widened over 27K of the Banadad Trail’s 30K length. Volunteers also erected new signage at the improved and expanded parking area at the West End trailhead off the Gunflint Trail near the western edge of Loon Lake.
The Banadad Trail is the longest wilderness tracked ski trail in the BWCA. Used by over 950 Nordic skiers each season, the Banadad Trail provides a singletracked wilderness experience. Requiring only a Minnesota ski pass and a free BWCA daily permit, skiers cross the Laurentian Divide on a gently sloping trail connecting the Mid and Upper Gunflint Nordic Trail Systems. Free parking is available at both east and west trailheads of the Banadad.
